The President receives the Head of OSCE Election Observer Mission
On December 13, 2019, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Cayetana de Zulueta, Head of the Election Observer Mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR).
Warmly welcoming the guest, the leader of our country noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics of Uzbekistan’s constructive interaction with the organization and its agencies.
Adopted as a result of OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger’s visit to Uzbekistan, a roadmap for development of cooperation with the organization is currently under implementation.
The official Tashkent has resumed participation in the work of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. For the first time since 1999, the organization has authorized this time a full-scale mission to monitor the parliamentary elections in our country.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Cayetana de Zulueta exchanged views on promising areas of cooperation, on issues related to further improving the national legislation. They discussed joint events, including in the electoral realm.
Chief of the ODIHR Mission expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan’s President for a warm reception and willingness for comprehensive cooperation with the organization.
The Italian specialist noted that the elections in our nation are taking place against the backdrop of a completely new political environment and on the basis of considerably improved legal standards, hence the greater interest of the ODIHR in observing the electoral process.
